Deputy Chief Minister, in-charge of Home and Border Affairs, Y. Patton, addressed the media fraternity at a press conference on 4th May 2023 at PHQ Conference Hall wherein he mentioned that a high-level committee headed by the DGP has been set up to restructure and re-organize the Nagaland Police so as to make it more efficient on functional and operational lines. He said that modern policing is more about establishing the supremacy of the law through investigation and law enforcement rather than brute force and hence the committee would look into all aspects of policing through the exercise and make recommendations based on the findings. He also said that workable and genuine suggestions are welcomed from the public to improve the department, law and order in the state and to create an environment for better development. Patton also mentioned that the DGP Nagaland and the Nagaland Police have launched a war on drugs during the last four months which has resulted in the registering of 101 cases and the arrest of 143 criminals from various parts of the North East for drug-related crimes and also revealed that the State Police has set up an Anti-Narcotics Task Force booth at the State Level with Statewide jurisdiction. Patton also highlighted that the Police department is looking into internal departmental issues such as the unauthorized absence of police personnel from duty, excessive deployment of bodyguards to state VIPs, and timely withdrawal of vehicles attached to retired officers. In conclusion, he made a clarion call to all concerned including the media fraternity to extend support in order to make the state a better place to live in.

The press briefing was later followed by an interactive session with the media personnel present.
