A consultative meeting pertaining to the Nagaland Municipal (Bill) 2023 with apex tribal civil bodies was held at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on 6th November 2023. The meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister and Convenor, Select Committee to Examine the Nagaland Municipal (Bill) 2023, TR Zeliang.

Members of the Select Committee: Minister, Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir; Minister, Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye and Advisor, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio along with representatives from the Central Nagaland Tribes Council, Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation and Tenyimi Union Nagaland attended the meeting. Chief Secretary, J Alam, IAS also attended the meeting.

            After the consultative meeting, a press briefing was also conducted where the Deputy Chief Minister stated that the Urban Local Bodies elections will be conducted soon once the Nagaland Municipal (Bill) 2023 is passed.  He also informed that the ULB elections will be conducted with 33% reservation for women, however, reservation of chairperson post to women in ULBs will be removed. He also informed that only indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland will be able to contest the ULB elections. Zeliang also highlighted that the provision of tax on land and properties will be removed.
