An awareness program on E-Waste management was jointly organized by Friends of Nature and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with e-Circle, Dimapur, under the aegis of IQAC, Kohima College, Kohima at the conference hall of Kohima College Kohima on 23rd September 2022.

The chairperson Temjenrenla Ozukum, Assistant Professor, Department of English welcomed all the participants and briefly highlighted the e-Circle and how the College has been actively participating in many activities like e-waste awareness drives, collections of e-waste, workshops, etc. She also mentioned how such practices and awareness have helped broaden one’s perspective to live a sustainable life.

Resource person, Bendangwala Walling, co-founder of e-Circle shared a brief introduction on how they handle electronic and electrical waste. She further explained the meaning of e-waste, the different kinds of E-waste, and how the waste is being handled where she also mentioned that most of the waste is recycled illegally in India by scrap dealers and other unauthorized parties. The resource person also talked about the e-waste (management) amendment rules, 2016, and accordingly, they have been executing their work. E-Circle is the first authorized e-waste collection center in Nagaland, and so far they have collected and recycled more than 40,000 Kgs of E-waste and conducted 60+ sensitization programs. The e-Circle provides different services – recycling, refurbishing, treatment, certification, data maintenance, on-site collection, and sensitization programs. She also presented the importance of E-waste management and the 4R’s of E-waste management which are Rethink, Repair, Reuse, and Recycle.

A total of 66 students (1st semester and KCSC executives) and four teachers participated in the programme.
