The National Commission for protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and District Administration in commemoration of “World day against Human Trafficking” under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organized a one-day sensitization workshop as part of the “Combating Child Trafficking” campaign on 1st August 2022 at DC’s Conference Hall Kiphire.
Child trafficking is a serious crime and the worst form of human rights violation prevalent in many parts of our country.
To combat the menace, the NCPCR an apex statutory body constituted under the commission for protection of child rights Act 2005, an act of the parliament of India has been taking ongoing steps under its mandate and jurisdiction.
Resource person Muthasuyi, Sr Superintendent of Police Kiphire, presented on the topic “Preventing Child Trafficking”. He highlighted the major problems that lead to Child trafficking.
1. Uneducated parents are easily convinced by conmen so he urged to foster the spread of education among the parents.
2. A lot of Indian poor children find themselves trapped in substance abuse which can further lead to them getting trafficked so proper awareness is required among parents and communities.
3. Strict laws are in place to prevent child trafficking.
4. Encourage businesses not to use child labor.
He also stated that many youths are staying outside working in companies and different fields but their parents are not aware of the actual reality. So he urged that it's high time for the NGOs to save the District from child trafficking by educating the parents.
Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, T Wati Aier in his welcome address thanked the NCPCR for initiating such a program in Kiphire and requested the officers and various NGO leaders to disseminate information on child trafficking in every village and also educate them.
NCPCR Official, Kapil Sharma highlighted the main objectives of the campaign. It is held to sensitize the key stakeholders on basic indicators to identify children at risk, vulnerable children, and to combat child trafficking in the bordering District of India. He stated that NCPCR is driving 25 days campaign in 75 bordering districts of India as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India. The program ended with the way forward and summed up by DCPO Kiphire.
