The 1st Teachers' Day Celebration of Chumoukedima district was held at CTC Hall, on 5th September, 2022, with Director General of Prisons, Homeguards & Civil Defence and State Disaster Response Force(SDRF), Rupin Sharma, IPS gracing as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occassion, Rupin Sharma congratulated the two recipients of the Teachers' award and expressed his gratitude to the teachers for being an inspiration to their peers and urged them to continue their noble deeds in moulding successful and responsible citizens and leaders of tomorrow. He said that everyone is born out of flesh and it is the teacher and education which makes who we are. If it is not for the basic qualities of inquisitiveness and innovation of teaching all of us would be an animal by instinct, he said.
Sharma mentioned that the standard of education and teaching is improving all over the country and even in Nagaland but there is still a lot of things to be done. He stated that in Nagaland’s Scenario, he observed that quality of discussion and discourse is missing and it is because of the environment in schools which has been strictly controlled. He added that lateral thinking among students and teachers need to be encouraged.
He stated that every day is a process of learning and being in the noble profession of teaching, it is a must for the teachers to upgrade their skills for imparting right knowledge, as lacking in quality and integrity will be a de-service to oneself and to the society. A generational change and if we are able to instill values in the society, then we are doing a great service to humanity, he added. Sharma urged the teachers to update themselves with reading and upgrading their skills which will open the minds to new ideas, new things, new technology and what is going around the world. He also encouraged the teachers to be a role model to the students in imparting reading as a good practice for their lives.
"Every Teacher is a missionary, and every student is a mission for every teacher" stated Principal GHSS, Cmd, Karen Yepthomi on her brief significance of the day’s message. She stated that challenges and words may differ from person to person but one thing that remains for teachers is that they are called upon to act beyond rules simply by being a teacher in a classroom.
Yepthomi said that it is a great boost for teachers, a boost to human ego to have children looking up to them has been an inspiration, but that comes with huge responsibility challenges. To be a role model to anybody is a great responsibility, hence as a teacher we need to reassess, recommit who we are, dedication towards serving humanity, our dedication to training young minds to think and act in the right direction, she added.
