Under the theme “Igniting Cultural Traditions”, organized by the Department of Art & Culture, a Tribal Festival was held at Chumoukedima on 30th September 2022 at Registering Office, Department of Art & Culture.
SDO (C), Chumoukedima, Temsuchuba Jamir, speaking as a special guest, said culture plays an important role in the identity of people, and people are born in a culture that is characterized not only by the dances or attire but it's a group of people, language, cuisine, art, and music. Quoting Mahatma Gandhiji, he said, “A Nation's culture resides in the heart and soul of its people”. Culture is the driving force for the society which has been passed on by our forefathers and that is what holds our identity, he said.
He mentioned that since the beginning of civilization human beings have developed a cultural identity that gives the individual a sense of belonging. Culture brings unity among society and binds different races of people together. Culture brings harmony and peace, he added. He urged the gathering to carry forward the continuity and changes of our culture into the future without changing its values.
The programme was chaired by Ikendube Haikam. The invocation was pronounced by N. Longshio Lotha. The welcome address was delivered by Registering Officer, Department of Art & Culture, P. Kughato. A vote of thanks was delivered by Imtiren Ao. Other highlights of the programme also included a cultural presentation by Sumi Cultural Troupe, Phom Phumnyu cultural club, Angami and Lotha Yotsu cultural Troupe, and folklore Recitation by Molola and Amenla
