As part of effort to promote Aadhaar usage by states, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Regional Office (RO) Guwahati organized a State Level workshop on ‘Recent Initiatives for Simplifying Aadhaar Usage’ at Administrative Training Institute, Kohima on 19th September 2022.
Addressing the participants and officials as the special guest of the workshop, Chief Secretary, Nagaland, Jan E Alam, IAS said that Aadhaar is very essential in availing various social welfare schemes & urged the residents to get registered for Aadhaar to receive benefits under Direct Benefit Transfer. He has also mentioned that special effort shall be undertaken to cover the left out population.
CEO, UIDAI, Dr. Saurabh Garg elaborated on the progress made by Aadhaar in the past decade. He highlighted in his speech that Aadhaar authentication provides an instant mechanism to prove ones identity through online authentication. He also emphasized that UIDAI will continue its efforts for improving the Ease of Living for residents & urged the Govt. of Nagaland to implement DBT in every service delivery schemes to bring transparency.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Director General, UIDAI, RO Guwahati, Devajit Khound, explained how Aadhaar has become the core of India’s digital public infrastructure. He said Aadhaar with its inherent features of Uniqueness, Authentication, Financial Address and e-KYC has helped the government authorities to directly reach residents for delivery of various subsidies, benefits and services. He emphasized that Aadhaar is verifiable anytime, anywhere both online as well as off-line in a cost-effective way.
Khound stressed on use of Aadhaar in every social welfare schemes to bring transparency/visibility in the existing system & urged the State Government that benefits shall be provided to the beneficiaries through Aadhaar Enabled Payment System for last mile delivery.
The various sessions of the workshop deliberated on Aadhaar features, Key Developments on Usage of Aadhaar, Data Privacy & Information Security. Deputy Secretary, DBT Mission, Devendra Kumar, highlighted on the various features on DBT & its implementation procedures for the State Government. Officials from UIDAI highlighted the importance of DBT and the issuance of Section - 7 Gazetted notifications for the schemes and benefits disbursed from the State Consolidated Fund. Discussions pertaining to Section 4(4)(b)(ii) was also held for issuance of notification under Good Governance.
The workshop was attended by Secretary, Finance, Govt. of Nagaland, Sushil Kumar Patel, IAS, Commissioner, Nagaland, Rovilatuo Mor, IAS and other officials from the State Government of Nagaland where detailed presentation on progress of Aadhaar enrolment & initiatives taken to implement DBT were shared. Best practices adopted by the state were also explained. It may be added that in spite of challenges/network issues, the Government of Nagaland is making rigorous efforts to ramp up Aadhaar enrolment.
