The first batch of trainees at the Drone School – Drone Centre of Excellence, Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre (NGISRSC), Planning and Transformation Department, Government of Nagaland, successfully completed the 14-Day FPV Drone Training Programme on 13th February 2026. Certificates were formally presented by Temsunaro Aier, IAS, Development Commissioner, who graced the valedictory programme as the Special Guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Development Commissioner appreciated the support of the Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission (NSEDM) towards this Government initiative. She lauded the trainers for their professionalism and dedication, and emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in imparting technical skills, particularly in emerging technologies such as drone operations, which hold significant potential in governance, planning, disaster response, and development activities. She further encouraged the trainees to remain future-ready and to continuously upgrade their skills.
Highlighting the growing relevance of skill-based education, she stated that academic qualifications alone are often insufficient to secure sustainable employment and described drone technology as an important 21st -Century Skill. Referring to the Government of India’s Union Budget emphasis on strengthening manufacturing and assembly of equipment and machine components, she urged the trainees to explore opportunities in indigenous manufacturing in line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. She also motivated the trainees to enroll in the DGCA Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) training at the Drone Centre in the next phase to enhance their professional prospects.
The graduating trainees expressed positive feedback on the course structure, practical exposure and overall learning experience, and conveyed keen interest in enrolling for advanced programmes in the future.
Later, Development Commissioner also announced the introduction of two additional specialised Non-DGCA courses at the Drone School, tailored to State-specific requirements, namely Drone Cinematography and Drone GIS Mapping & Survey.
The second batch of ten trainees commenced the Drone Repair & Maintenance training immediately thereafter, with classes starting the same day, reflecting the growing interest and demand for structured drone skill training in the State.
The program was attended by the Additional Development Commissioner, Planning and Transformation Department, along with senior officials of the Department, officials from NSEDM and others.
It may be recalled that the Drone School – Drone Centre of Excellence, housed at the Nagaland GIS & Remote Sensing Centre, Kohima, was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, Shri Neiphiu Rio, on 26th January 2026, marking a significant milestone in strengthening geospatial and drone capabilities in Nagaland.
