World Fisheries day 2025 was celebrated at Peren district on 21st November 2025 at Kevipele Fishery kaleilwa ward, Jalukie town. The event was organised by Jalukie Valley Fishery Co-operative Society in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Peren.
Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru graced the occasion as special guest. In his speech he thanked the Fishery Department and the fish farmers of Jalukie Valley for giving him the opportunity to participate and shared his thoughts and expressed his gratitude to the District Fishery Officer Peren, C. Dory Yanthan for organizing such a programme. D.C said the officer is conducting different kinds of activities, inspiring the public and showing enthusiasm in serving the Government perfectly, and performing her service to the public in general.
Hiazu Meru highlighted the importance of sustaining fisheries management in the district and encouraged the gathering to go back to nature and conserve the aquatic and ecosystem. He also encouraged the gathering and informed about the forthcoming Unity Mini Hornbill Festival in Peren to commence from 4 to 6 December 2025. Therefore he urged everyone to come and participate in the festival.
Earlier, President Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN), Mhonbemo Ngullie and Neitho- o Kuotsu joint Director, Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources also spoke and they encouraged the citizens to generate more fish to promote their economy for their livelihood. Also opined the fish farmers to encourage one another and spread awareness about the values and importance of rearing fish.
The activities of the day also include competition such as Angling and snail eating. The Chief Guest declared and launched the Peren District Anglers Association (PDAA). Rev. Kuzierang thou offered blessing for the day programme, and Akhiubo Kaurintah, President Jalukie Valley Fishery Cooperative Society Ltd proposed the vote of thanks.
