POLICE REPORT ON COLLAPSE OF CIRCUIT TOWER AT WOKHA

Addl. S.P and PRO Wokha, K. Soriso informed that on 28th April 2024, a written complaint report was received from the Executive Engineer, (Transmission), Kohima Division, Er. Namheu Khate Zeliang, concerning the collapse of 1(one) 132 KV single circuit tower (Lat -26.199934° and Long -94.263384° ) of 132  KV Wokha–Sanis Transmission line between Yikhum and Riphyim village  during the early hours of 27th April 2024.

In response to the incident, a dedicated team was immediately constituted under the leadership of SDPO Wokha, Sangthing Khiam and the case duly endorsed to UBI, Ginlunlal Tungnung O/C PS Wokha as I/O. Initial investigation revealed that nuts and bolts of the tower members were missing which is suspected to be removed and stolen by unknown miscreant which resulted in the structural collapse of the Tower.

The team jotted down all the suspects and scrap dealers in the surrounding areas and they were diligently scrutinized. With a technical support and assistance from the Cyber Crime Cell, DEF Wokha, the team narrowed down on 2 (two) suspects and launched a swift and stealthily operation leading to a breakthrough and apprehended the main accused namely, Likho Kithan, age 32 years V/o Yikhum, presently residing at Tsumang “A” Colony on 30th April 2024 and booked him U/S 379/336 IPC R/W U/S 3 Damage to Public Act R/W U/S 136 Electrical Act.

Wokha Police assured the public that every effort is being made to arrest all those who are connected with the case so as to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
