QUARTERLY MEETING OF DTCC HELD AT WOKHA

District Level co-ordination Committee & District Level Enforcement Squad NTCP, Wokha held a quarterly meeting at DC conference hall, on 6th May 2024. The meeting was chaired by SDO (C) Wokha, Nuhuta Tunyi.

During the meeting, 33 Schools (GHS, GMS & GPS) under Wokha district were declared Tobacco-Free Schools, which was presented by Chief Medical Officer, Wokha Dr. Zuben Kikon.

Sr. Dental Surgeon & DNO, NTCP, Wokha Dr. Chenithung Yanthan while presenting the NTCP quarterly report stated that, under Wokha district, there are 191 Schools, where 103 schools are already declared Tobacco-Free schools and 88 schools are yet to be declared tobacco-free schools. In this regard, he said that efforts are being made to ensure that the remaining schools will also be declared tobacco free schools very shortly. Yanthan also informed that out of 65 Heath Centres, 50 Health Centres are already declared tobacco free health centres. Five villages under Wokha district are also declared tobacco free villages. Apart from these, Dr. Yanthan informed the members that counselling is also given to clients to quit the use of tobacco products and pharmacological supports are given to clients.  

District Education Officer, Wokha informed the members during the meeting that the remaining 88 schools which are yet to be declared tobacco free schools, necessary information and direction will be issued to those schools to ensure early implementation for declaration of tobacco free schools.

SDO (C) informed all the members and stake holders to give concentrated efforts to achieve targets of the various activities under NTCP and to reduce the use of Tobacco, he also encouraged the team to undertake intensive awareness campaigns and sensitization programmes to create awareness among the public about the harmful effect of tobacco consumption.
