The Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) extends heartfelt congratulations to the Nagaland contingent for their outstanding performance in the 3rd North East Games 2024, showcasing a remarkable improvement compared to the previous edition of the Games held in Shillong in 2022. The NOA appreciates the role of the affiliated sports associations who collaborated with the NOA on all fronts to ensure that the 3rd North East Games was a resounding success.

It may be recalled that in the first ever North East Games held in Imphal, Manipur, Nagaland secured 42 medals; which included 6 Gold, 9 Silver and 27 Bronze Medals.

In the second edition of the Games held at Shillong, Meghalaya, Nagaland secured 79 medals, which included 18 Gold, 17 Silver and 44 Bronze medals.

In this third edition, the Nagaland contingent performed remarkably, winning 48 Gold, 42 Silver and 44 Bronze medals; with a total of 134 medals. The credit for this improvement goes to the athletes, who have all trained very hard and every medal is well deserved.

The icing on the cake was the awards of Outstanding Sportswoman and Sportsman were both bagged by athletes from Nagaland. Tsuchoi T from athletics discipline won 4 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals in Athletics bagging the Outstanding Sportswoman Award. Venuzo Dawhuo won two Gold Medals in athletics and one Gold in wrestling thereby becoming the only athlete to win gold medals across different sports disciplines; and went on to be judged Outstanding Sportsman of the Games.

While there have been significant improvements in certain disciplines, we have witnessed some disappointing performances which were below expectations. Therefore, while we celebrate our overall success, it goes without saying that there is always room for a lot of improvements.

The NOA also takes this opportunity to extend its appreciation and gratitude to all the organisations, sports associations, local communities, all the government departments, press and media fraternity; our partners, collaborators and vendors; the Department of Youth Resources & Sports and all other individuals who made significant contributions to ensure that the games were held in a successful manner. The success is not just the achievement of the NOA but it is a collective victory of all the citizens of the State. It is indeed a triumph of Team Nagaland.

The NOA’s aspiration is to promote and develop the entire eco-system of sports and in doing so the platform of sports is being used to bring our people closer towards oneness and unity. Every sportsperson is an ambassador of the Olympic ideals of unity and solidarity in line with our motto of Stronger Together. Thank you to one and all and Long Live Nagaland.
